BUILDING INFORMATION MODELING

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a fundamental process utilized by Pillar Consutling Group. Pillar Consulting Group has been utilizing BIM for years to provide our clients with a superior way to visualize and understand their project and how our design fits into the larger picture. BIM utilizes parametric element modeling to caputure not just the linew, arcs and circles framiliar in CAD and hand-drafted plans, but instead extensive information about every part and piece of a building project. This information can be shared across the board within project teams to speed up shop drawing generation and approval; improve understanding of complex situations; dramatically reduce construction conflicts; and respond rapidly to revisions, additions and project changes. Pillar Consulting Groups experience with BIM enables us to act as the "master model manager" or as a contributor to another's model. All of our engineers are trained to use and equiped with current versions of Autodesk Revit Architecture and/or Revit Structure, and are continually improving their skills through madatory continuing education. Our strucutral analysis software links directly to our BIM models to provide an even more responsive and streamlined design enviroment, capable of dramtically improving process of building design and construction.

BUILDING INFORMATION MODELING

Our experience with the development and management of BIM models include:

  • Generation of accurate as-built conditions in 3D
  • Development of new building geometry in 3D
  • Integration of architectural and structural models
  • Workset management and coordination
  • Administration of changes and revisions
  • Conflict and clash identification & resolution
  • Custom modeling of complex building components
  • Integration of piping and utilities with structural elements
  • Exporting CIS/2 steel detailing files from BIM
  • Importing CAD files into building information models
  • Integration of site work and grading with buildings

H-Occupancy Building Careful planning and site layout were mandatory on this project, due to numerous site constraints which included numerous nearby, existing buildings; a cooling tower that had to stay in operation during construction; and a sloping site topography and existing roadway.

MACHINE PIT FLOOR PLATES In order to better visualize and plan for the replacement of a heavily loaded industrial pit floor covering, Pillar developed a BIM model that accurately captured the complex, existing concrete geometry, complete with sloping floors, recesses and existing steel embeds and members.

LATICRETE FACILITY Pillar Consulting Group utilized BIM to integrate the design of this 80,000 square foot manufacturing and warehousing facility with a 100 foot tall process tower. The process tower was built inside the building footprint, but had to be structurally isolated from it.

PCT MELTING FURNACE #4This project serves as a striking example of the accuracy achievable with BIM. The contractor and owner were able to visualize and understand the complex structural steel framing and connections early on in the project, thru the use 3D views and parametric modeling.

PEAK SUN TECHNICAL CENTER This 5,500 square foot, two-story custom steel chemical process and control room building was approved quickly, and constructed smoothly
