Careful planning and site layout were mandatory on this project, due to numerous site constraints which included numerous nearby, existing buildings; a cooling tower that had to stay in operation during construction; and a sloping site topography and existing roadway.

In order to better visualize and plan for the replacement of a heavily loaded industrial pit floor covering, Pillar developed a BIM model that accurately captured the complex, existing concrete geometry, complete with sloping floors, recesses and existing steel embeds and members.

Pillar Consulting Group utilized BIM to integrate the design of this 80,000 square foot manufacturing and warehousing facility with a 100 foot tall process tower. The process tower was built inside the building footprint, but had to be structurally isolated from it.

This project serves as a striking example of the accuracy achievable with BIM. The contractor and owner were able to visualize and understand the complex structural steel framing and connections early on in the project, thru the use 3D views and parametric modeling.

This 5,500 square foot, two-story custom steel chemical process and control room building was approved quickly, and constructed smoothly
